Use our tools to fix your own bike with the guidance of Recyclery volunteer mechanics — no experience necessary.

The Recyclery’s Open Shop is a welcoming space for Chicago cyclists of all skill levels. We strive to provide an open, respectful, and collaborative atmosphere free of mechanical elitism. One of our volunteer bike mechanics will be happy to help you figure out how to get your bike running well.

Open Shop hours:

  • Monday 5 pm – 7 pm
  • Thursday 7 pm – 9 pm
  • Saturday 11 am – 2 pm

Open Shop Tips:

  • Bike repair projects often snowball and can take longer than you might expect. Please come as close to the start of a session as you can to give yourself as much time as possible.
  • Work on one project at a time rather than starting multiple repairs. Work with our volunteers to triage and decide which to tackle first.

For those working on their own bicycles we suggest a $20/hour donation. This helps us cover running costs like rent, tools, and supplies — and keeps our community bike shop going.

New and used bike parts are available for purchase during Open Shop. Compatibility is the trickiest part of buying bicycle parts, so we highly recommend bringing your bike with you whenever you shop for parts in Chicago.

Professionally-refurbished bikes for sale are available during Saturday Open Shop 11am – 2pm, our In-Person Bike Sales Wednesday 6pm – 8pm, and 24/7 through our online bike shop.
